Received feedback from team members on Block mesh Progress. They wanted to see a few changes and directions with the design moving forward.
- Add Staircases on the sides of the districts moving from zone 1 to zone 2 as a side entrance or “backstreet”
- Build a single central path of egress from lowest level to the castle.
- Build extra hexes on the mid layer that function as enterable buildings.
- Castle itself should be a large enterable building
I think some of these choices will result in some pathing issues and possibly gameplay that is too linear. I think ahead of time that some fixes will be to let the kingdom be more layered like Osgiliath from Lord of the Rings. (No central pathway.) And instead of small side stairs big zonal halls and instead maybe some valves that allow players to maneuver around the edges and drop back into zones without going into the main access ways.
“Final” Iteration of Block Mesh for now…Next Steps will be to have the lead designer add in the spawn closets and mechanics to have enemies spawn at different zones in different waves and start playtesting to see how things feel when actually trying to defend the castle. Then following Playtesting and while it occurs we will have artists working on final assets to replace block mesh assets.
